Bedroom DIY Project

It is finally done. My bedroom feels perfect. It completely represents me. It is clean, fresh, and welcoming. Everyday when I walk inside of it, I feel completely content. My mind feels cleansed like it does when I walk outside on a cold day in inhale the faultless, crisp, air. I am able to relax on my new bed and melt deep into my smooth white duvet. It makes me feel like I am lying on a puffy cloud. When I am studying, I am able to sit comfortably at my new desk and look out at fern coloured trees and a deep, blue sky.

When I first thought about re-doing my bedroom, I wanted to go with the colour scheme, white, red and hot pink. However getting a hot pink desk, proved a lot more difficult than I first gathered, so it has ended up more of a red and white room ... and I love it!

Photos:

I first started my DIY room project with one of the least expensive jobs, turning my former desk into a book shelf. I used the top two shelfs for all books I could dig out around the house, and then the bottom shelf I have organised so it keeps all my study books for different subjects.

After I had purchased my wooden crates for the bed base and painted them white, my next job was to assemble them together in my room. It took a good lot of effort and a strong father to deliver them up the stairs and to my room, but they made it there eventually.

I then added in my home painted red chair, and big white trestle table desk. It was so exciting, to be finally putting my room together. I began decorating as soon as possible after. I bought some gorgeous (and yes, fake) pink flowers and put them on my desk. I alined my desk with some cute Kiki.k, red accessories to stick with the theme. And finally added the stationary.

However, when my mum and I took one last look at the room, we realized that their was still a completely bare area in the middle of the room, which looked slightly odd. So we came to the conclusion that a need a cute little mat. And from that decision, the fluffy, red mat was born.

A little while ago, I showed my dad a picture from tumblr of this gorgeous painting and asked him a gigantic favour; I asked if he would be able to paint one similar for my room. My mother loved the idea and my dad said yes! Yay, for me. In the end it turned out wonderfully, and I absolutely love looking at it.

So finally the bedroom DIY project is complete, and I am so happy with the way it has turned out.

Autumn Breeze

It is officially the end of summer and Autumn as begun. It is the first of March and everyone must be thinking, 'no, summer is over', there are some really great things about autumn. The leaves turn to beautiful auburn/red colours and cover the earth's floor like a blanket, you can have fallen leave fights with your friends, you will be able to sleep because it won't be too hot, you can hid away inside your house, by a fire with a good book and hot chocolate, and you can get your old, yellow, gumboots and jump in puddles left by the crying sky.

See, what did I tell you even though the sunshine has disappeared for a while, that doesn't mean your happiness and smile has too as well! Make the most of what you have, you won't regret it!

Always Wishing for More

My wishlist just seems to be getting longer and longer, unfortunately after spending all my money on my new bedroom, I am offically broke. I have no money! I think I am getting withdrawal symptoms from not shopping. The fact that I have no income and no money however doesn't stop me wishing I had all these things. So I have decided to share my ever growing want list with all of you.

1. Nike Free 3.0 Running Shoes
2. Felix Ray Rain Rain Go Away Umbrella

Success at School.

It is official. The summer holidays have ended. I am not going to lie, at the beginning of the week, there was a small part of me that was excited to start school again, find out my classes, teachers and just to get back into a normal routine. But now that I have had a few proper days of school, the laid back me, has disappeared and has been replaced by the drama queen. Whenever I think about the amount of work I am going to have to do this year, and the breaks I will get ... I just imagine myself with no time at all to myself. No time to watch TV, no time to relax in the sun by the pool, no time to read new books, no time to write posts for my blogspot, no time for tumblr, the list could go on and on!

However over the holidays, I decided that I wanted to have a year full of happiness, laughter, success and fun, so I am not going to let my dramatic side get in the way of that. Because I am starting NCEA Level One this year, I have to be realistic in what I am going to have to do, but that doesn't mean it has to take over my life. I have decided that by being organised and ahead of the game this year, I am going to be able to relax much more, whilst keeping up my grades. I was never one to sit behind a desk every day and go over everything I did at school that day, I just couldn't face it, and I still can't, but I am going to make an effort to go over the things that confused me in classes each school day, so that when I get to school the next day I am prepared. I am also going to have an organised room, that consists of files to keep extra work/old exam papers from school in.

School is hard, there is no point telling yourself it isn't, but it is not the end of the world. It isn't always going to be hard, there will be some difficult patches and some really fun/easy patches. By making the most of your time and being optimistic, I think that school can actually be much more enjoyable than it is made out to be.

A Flawless Holiday Read

I have recently been struggling finding that perfect novel that I can completely and utterly dissolve in, whilst lying out in the sun and enjoyed what is left of the sunshine. However I took a small trip to the library last week and found an author called Belinda Jones. Formally a magazine journalist and travel editor, she has currently written 9 novels based on all her experiences and adventures in different places around the world. She has visited over 25 different in her life so far and plans to write about all of them.

I am currently reading her latest book; California Dreamers. I have really enjoyed reading this book as it is so interesting and I am able to just let my mind wander into each chapter. It may not be the most realistic plot line in the world, but I am certainly enjoying the fact that I can dream and hope that similar things might happen to me.

Belinda Jones also has her own website which tells you about her books, her life and anything interesting she thinks you need to know. Take a look at it here. I hope you enjoy her books as much as I do.

My Happy Place

Recently I have found myself struggling to fall asleep. I haven't been able to just close my eyes and drift away to another world. So many people have told me that you need to create a place that you can go to to make you happy and take all the stressful thoughts away. This place is your happy place. I have never found the perfect happy place, there has never been anywhere that I could think of that would take me away from my everyday anxieties.

However it was just this morning that I was taking part in a course with one of my mother's close friends and we were talking about our happy place. Suddenly I started creating a place in my mind that was everything I could dream of, it was my heaven. It started off with me lying on my back in the middle of a pure, clear blue lake. I then decided that I was lying on a bright pink lilo. Then all of a sudden the lake was surrounded by tall and strikingly beautiful pine trees. I felt the warmth of the sun shining down on my whole body, warming me from the inside out. In that moment, I knew that that was my heaven, my happy place.

Create your own happy place, your own magical world that you are completely and utterly happy. It will help you sleep, help you control your fears and anxieties and most of all take you away from the things making you upset.

The Bedroom Makeover

Your bedroom is meant to be your sanctuary. The place that you feel completely and utterly safe in, the place that you can call your own and the place that feels like home. My bedroom has always been slightly off, and I have never felt like it was my own. Finally, I made a decision to use some of my savings and give it a complete makeover. I cannot wait for it to all come together once and for all!

Tumblr has been my main source of creativity with the different ideas for my new room. I have been forever scrolling through photos of rooms for things that I think might look decent in my own. Overall I have taken ideas from just a few photos and have decided on my overall colour scheme as being white, pink and red. I am all for as much daylight in my room as possible so I decided that white would be the best option for that and then wanted a pop of colour, so used my favourite colour combination of pink and red.

When I first saw this photo on tumblr, I just knew that I had to incorporate some aspect of this lovely bedroom setup in my own. I ended up deciding that I would place my own bed in one corner of my room as well, so it would, in a way, be like a couch bed.

When I came across this photo on tumblr, I loved the authentic look of the mattress lying on top of these crates to form the bed. I then thought about how I could incorporate that into my bedroom and decided that my own mattress could lay on them in the corner, however I would paint them white to match the colour scheme.

For my duvet, I decided on a completely plain, white duvet cover with no patterns at all, with two white pillow cases, and two red pillow cases. Then I saw this photo and decided to also get a large amount of small pillows coloured in red and pink to decorate the bed with.

Whenever I study at home, I have to be in full daylight, on a wide open desk, in a wide open space. Currently the only place that suits me in my house is the kitchen/living room, dining table ... of course my mother is completely against it, so she suggest me getting a trestle table desk, similar to the one above. I would position it right by the window in my room, for maximum daylight.

When I fell upon this photo, I was curious to how I could incorporate this in my bedroom. I quickly decided that instead of a white trestle table desk, I could get a hot pink one similar to the photo and have a red chair. I loved the idea!

All together my room is coming together nicely, but there is of course a budget that I have to stick too. I am paying for it all myself, and finding different ways around the awful prices I have come to find. For example, I found an old wooden chair in our garage that I have decided to sand down and paint red. I am also going to (hopefully, with the help of my father), make my own desk. So everything has been done within a strict budget, which has actually made it all the more exciting, especially since I am doing it all myself.  A little DIY project. It really isn't too hard, and anyone can do it. So try it yourself if you have time and want a change!
